Corrugated Box Cost Sheet

Corrugated Box Calculator
About Corrugated Box Calculations

This Corrugated Box Calculator helps you estimate the cost and material requirements for custom corrugated boxes. By inputting dimensions, ply, flute type, and GSM values, you can calculate the sheet size, weight, and cost per box. Ideal for packaging businesses, this tool ensures accurate planning for your packaging needs.

1. Raw Material Preparation

Kraft paper rolls (virgin or recycled) are prepared. Different GSM papers are selected for liners (top, middle, bottom) and fluting medium based on box strength requirements.

2. Corrugation Process

The fluting medium passes through heated corrugating rolls to create the wavy flute pattern (A, B, C, E, or F flute). Temperature and pressure are controlled to achieve proper flute formation.

3. Lamination & Bonding

Starch-based adhesive is applied to flute tips. Liners are pressed onto both sides of corrugated medium using heated plates to form single-wall board. For multi-ply boxes, this process repeats.

4. Sheet Cutting & Creasing

Corrugated boards are cut into required sheet sizes. Creasing rules create folding lines. Slotting creates flaps and handles. Rotary die-cutting used for complex designs.

5. Printing & Finishing

Flexographic printing applies designs, logos, and text. Additional finishes like lamination, varnishing, or coating may be applied for protection and aesthetics.

6. Folding & Gluing

Flat sheets are folded along crease lines. Adhesive is applied to joining flaps. Boxes are pressed to ensure proper bonding. For RSC (Regular Slotted Container), stitching or taping may be used.

7. Quality Control

Boxes undergo burst strength test (Mullen test), edge crush test (ECT), compression test, and dimensional checks. Print quality and adhesive bond strength are verified.

8. Packing & Dispatch

Finished boxes are bundled, strapped, and palletized. They're stored in controlled environments to prevent moisture absorption before dispatch to customers.

Key Manufacturing Factors:
  • Flute Type: A (4.7mm), B (2.5mm), C (3.6mm), E (1.5mm), F (0.8mm) - affects cushioning and stacking strength
  • Board Grade: Determined by GSM of liners and fluting medium
  • Moisture Control: Critical for adhesive bonding and dimensional stability
  • Temperature: Corrugating rolls heated to 177-204°C for proper flute formation
