๐Ÿ“ How is Tape Coverage Calculated?

Each sealing strip length = box dimension + 2× overlap (tape wraps around flap on both sides). Total tape per box = sum of all strips × wastage factor.

Strip Length = Box Dimension + (2 × Overlap)
Total per box = ฮฃ (all strips) × (1 + wastage%/100)
Boxes per roll = Roll Length ÷ Total per box

H-Seal (2 strips): Top + Bottom, each = L + 2×overlap
I-Seal (1 strip): Top only = L + 2×overlap
U-Seal Top (3 strips): 1 top + 2 side strips (H+W+2×overlap each)
U-Seal Bottom (3 strips): 1 bottom + 2 side strips
U-Seal Top+Bottom (4 strips): 1 top + 1 bottom + 2 short-side strips
U-Seal Full (6 strips): 1 top + 1 bottom + 2 short-side + 2 long-side strips

BOPP Tape Coverage Calculator — Complete Guide

BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) tape is the backbone of India's packaging industry. Corrugated boxes, e-commerce shipments, and heavy export cartons — BOPP tape is used in all of them. However, calculating the correct tape consumption still remains guesswork for many people — resulting in either excess tape waste or incomplete seals.

Why is BOPP Tape Calculation Important?

If you pack 10,000 boxes and your tape consumption estimate is wrong, you either waste money ordering 200–300 extra rolls, or your tape runs out mid-production and your shipment gets delayed. This calculator solves both problems.

    • Calculate exact tape length based on box size and sealing method
    • How many boxes can be sealed per roll — including wastage factor
    • Calculate buffer stock and carton quantity for large orders
    • Estimate production capacity from current inventory
    • Enter price per roll and get a total cost estimate

H-Seal vs I-Seal vs U-Seal — Which Method is Right?

I-Seal is the fastest and cheapest method — just one strip on top. It works for light goods but is not very strong. H-Seal is the standard — one strip each on top and bottom. 90% of corrugated boxes are sealed with this method. U-Seal is ideal for heavy or fragile goods — a main strip along with both side faces covered. Full U-Seal (6 strips) is used for export cartons where maximum security is required.

Standard BOPP Tape Sizes — In India

    • 48mm × 100m — Most popular size, for standard corrugated boxes
    • 72mm × 100m — For heavy boxes, double-wall cartons
    • 48mm × 65m — Budget range, for small packers
    • 24mm × 100m — For light packages, inner sealing
    • 50mm × 66m — MNC standard size, international shipping
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between H-seal, I-seal, and U-seal?

I-seal = just one strip across the top center. H-seal = strips on both top and bottom. U-seal = one strip on top or bottom + strips on both sides — stronger sealing. Full U-seal (6 strips) is the most secure option for export or heavy boxes.

How much overlap should be used?

Standard is 50–80mm per end (meaning 100–160mm total per strip). For heavy boxes or long transit, use 80–100mm. For light goods, 40–50mm is sufficient. The default is set to 80mm.

Why is a wastage percentage added?

Every roll has some tape wasted — pull-tab, misalignment, operator error, and remaining roll core. 3–7% wastage is normal for machine sealing, and 5–10% for manual sealing.

Does tape width affect the calculation?

No. Tape width is for seal strength and aesthetics — 72mm for heavy boxes, 24–36mm for light goods. This calculator only calculates tape length consumption.

How much buffer stock should be kept?

10–15% buffer for consistent orders. 20–25% extra for seasonal peaks or new customers. Always order in full cartons (6 or 12 rolls) — automatically calculated in the Order tab.

What is the average BOPP tape consumption per box?

For a standard 400×300×200mm box, H-seal, with 80mm overlap: approximately 1.9–2.1 metres per box. One 100m roll can seal roughly 47–50 such boxes after wastage.

7. Click "Generate PDF" to save complete report

CFT Calculation Formula

CFT (Cubic Feet) = Length(ft) × Width(ft) × Height(ft)

Amount = CFT × Rate per CFT

Example: If Length = 7ft, Breadth = 12in, Thickness = 1in

Breadth in feet = 12in ÷ 12 = 1ft

Thickness in feet = 1in ÷ 12 = 0.0833ft

CFT = 7 × 1 × 0.0833 = 0.5833 CFT

If Rate per CFT = Rs.1400, then Amount = 0.5833 × 1400 = Rs.816.67
